肺炎鏈球菌（Streptococcus pneumoniae）是一種可經由飛沫、近距離接觸或接觸呼吸道分泌物傳播的細菌。肺炎球菌感染可透過直接接觸、飛沫、接觸呼吸道分泌物等途徑擴散；而肺炎球菌血清型眾多（可超過 90 種／甚至更多），不同血清型在社區流行程度、侵襲性與抗生素耐藥性上也可能不同。肺炎球菌可造成的疾病可分為兩類：非侵入性疾病及侵入性肺炎球菌疾病（IPD，風險更高）。預防往往比治療更關鍵，而「接種肺炎球菌疫苗」是被認為能有效預防侵入性肺炎球菌疾病的重要方法之一。
肺炎球菌感染的症狀會因感染部位而異。如出現嚴重症狀或高危人士（長者、幼兒、免疫力弱）請盡快求醫。肺炎（肺部感染）常見症狀：發燒、發冷、咳嗽（可有痰）、氣促、胸口不適、疲倦、食慾差。腦膜炎警號（需緊急處理）：高燒、劇烈頭痛、頸部僵硬、意識混亂、嗜睡。中耳炎常見症狀（兒童常見）：耳痛、發燒、耳內分泌物、反覆感染可造成長期聽力影響。
PCV 20（20價肺炎鏈球菌結合疫苗）屬於不活化結合疫苗，可針對 20 種肺炎鏈球菌血清型提供免疫保護。
可降低由疫苗涵蓋血清型引致的肺炎球菌疾病風險，包括肺炎、菌血症、腦膜炎等侵入性肺炎球菌疾病。
2歲以上人士（包括成人及長者）只需接種1 針。
