It is recommended that adults aged 18 or above should undergo a regular health screening every year to detect potential health disorders or hidden illnesses. High risk groups and elderly should have their physical examinations every six months as it can be difficult to diagnose diseases in the early stages. Individuals who had family history with serious illnesses like cancer, heart disease or genetic diseases, should undergo appropriate health checks according to their needs.
Tumor markers may be the by-products of cancer cells or the body’s response to tumors. Most are proteins and can be detected through blood or urine tests. Common tumor markers mainly include liver cancer tumor marker AFP, lung cancer tumor marker CA211, female tumor marker CA125, etc. Although a high tumor marker index does not necessarily mean that you have a tumor or cancer, it can serve as a warning so that you can undergo further examinations as early as possible to increase the chance of recovery.
You need to be fasted for eight hours before your blood glucose test, i.e., no food intake in the morning before your examination. Only small portion of water intake is allowed. It is best for women to avoid the check-up during menstruation.
